MAY 2009 NEWSLETTER:
The May newsletter will be brief. We have events coming and anyone that has a story I would like to put it in the next newsletter. Also any great digital pictures would be welcome.
Presidents Message:
I won't bore everyone with a long President's message this issue. We have alot going on right now and I'm simply urging ALL of our members to come out with their military vehicles and get involved, show them off, and have a good time enjoying your vehicle.
First of all, I apologize for the late information on the Rhody Days event here in Florence, but they literally just released the parade staging info today. For the Show & Shine car show on Saturday the 16th, it is being held this year at the Three Rivers Casino just east of Florence on Hwy 126. This year, they are requiring each individual to register themselves, so I can't pre-register the club as I did last year. You can pre-register on late Friday afternoon between 3:00 and 6:00 at the casino parking lot, or Saturday morning, starting at 8:00 a.m. (arrive early - hint) They will be placing us in the southwest corner of the parking lot by the OD green tent (imagine that) that is the original casino location. They've assured us we have plenty of room this year!
For the parade on Sunday, we are entry #56, and we will be staging on the north side of 27th street, facing east (Hwy 101), so the best way to approach is off of Kingwood, where the airport is. Please be there by 10:30 at the latest. The parade starts at noon.
For Memorial Day Parades, we have two to cover: Coos Bay on Saturday May 23; Ron Johnson has the details on that and has pre-registered us as a club - he can be reached at 541-297-4300. Reedsport is on Monday the 25th. Check-in and staging is at 10:30 a.m. at Rainbow Plaza on the north side of Hwy 38 in downtown Reedsport. We're pre-registered as a club so they'll direct you to our staging spot.
A new event we've added this year is the 1st Annual Flag Day 'Wings & Wheels' at the Florence airport on Sunday, June 14th. The Central Coast Military Vehicle Group is a co-sponsor of this event, and we'd really love to have a great turnout from ALL of our members! We are in charge of the traffic control and parking (thank you Bill Lambiaso), so we need some man-power for that, as well as we want you ALL (see a patern here?) to bring out and display your military vehicles. This is a combination car show, static fly in and military vehicle and museum event (along with local emergency response agencies and United States Coast Guard). It's going to be a great event and we really need the club's support to make this successful. Please feel free to contact me at 541-999-7965 or militaryjeeps@q.com for additional information.
There are additional activities in July and August for which we'll get more info out prior to. It's a great time of the year to get out and enjoy your military vehicles, support your club, and share your passion for this great hobby with the public. The restoring and showing of our military vehicles of all vintages is an important part of keeping the memory of our Veterans and their service in the minds of current generations. I hope you'll come out to these events and help us - remember - 'Keep 'em Rolling'!
Cal Applebee, President
