I'm thinking about working the blog again:
Cals Comments:
Wow, where does the time go - it seems like I just get one Comment written and Mike is reminding me it's time for another. And this time I seem to have 'writer's block' so I'll just ramble a little (what's new you ask?).
Mike was right about the Lakeside Flyin - that is always a lot of fun! Unfortunately, this year the Stearman group wasn't able to get out of Cottage Grove because of weather, so Sam's 1944 Stearman was the only biplane, but he did manage to get a lot of rides in that day, so it always ads a lot of atmosphere to have him taking off and landing ten or twelve times throughout the day. We also had some other private planes stop in as well. Our display was pretty neat this year - we seem to grow a little and learn a little every time we do it. Many thanks to Scot Jackson who isn't even a club member but always hauls his stuff out and helps us out. Had Ron been in khaki’s in the photo, with the surroundings' you would have definitely thought you were in the WWII era!
Speaking of WWII era - as a lot of you probably realize, we just celebrated August 14th as the 65th anniversary of the ending of WWII - VJ Day. And September 2nd is the date on which the Japanese leaders signed the formal surrender on the decks of the USS Missouri - so let's all take a minute to remember those Veterans who gave so much back then so we can have so much freedom in our lives today.
Re: Mike's comments on elections, please give it some serious thought. While I enjoy playing leader of the group, it's healthy to shift responsibilities around from time to time. Bob & Melba have done an admirable job of handling the minutes and the treasury, but they might want a break as well. I don't think we'll let Mike out of the editor's seat yet - I enjoy his articles too much! But please do consider stepping up and taking a role in the club leadership - bring us some of your ideas and talent and see where we go!
Lastly, I do hope you'll join us in Newport for the September club meeting and event. We haven't traveled into the northern end of our region in a while, and it's time we support members there and spread the exposure for our club up north as well.
Thanks!
Cal
Upcoming Events:

Willie is providing food, drink and parking for our group at the event.
Mike Powter plans on being there with my MV and a small display and hopefully in uniform. I have a British jungle green uniform on order and with any luck I’ll have it by then. It happens at the same time as our club meeting so we can have the meeting there so if nothing else, show for the meeting.

September 19 – 26:
KOA, Stockton/Lodi, California, MVCC Fall meet.
Most of us know about the MVCC spring and fall meets and I went to the spring one and had the time of my life so I’m planning on going to this. It’s a great time to sell off any unwanted items and buy treasures. Plus meet interesting people in our hobby. I understand the fall meet is not as big but from what I understand it’s a good event to attend. The weather looks good going by the averages so I’m going to dry tent camp again.
September 25 -26:
This is my guess, but Myrtle Point have their Harvest Festival and we had a showing last year. It was a nice event and when I have more info we’ll pass it on.
The club elections come up in December and it’s a good time to start thinking about if you want to take on a position. I have been doing the Newsletter for a while and I’m more than willing to pass the job along and I’ll work with a new editor. If not I put it out there to any member that would like to assist me. My opinion is that Cal has been doing a fantastic job as president of the club and will get my vote to stay on as long as he wants to. The same goes for Bob and Melba and the jobs they do. I suggest between now and elections in December that if anyone is interested in being a part of the club leadership team to contact Cal. On the Newsletter please contact me. The club has good potential to have some new CCMVG events going.
